Rag Mag 52
What's up rag mag? Spooky season is upon us and hope everyone is hanging in there. From the absurdity of our school's co-branded Indigenous People's Day AND Columbus Day (do they even teach the students why this so so f'-d up?) to Cornell to the bloodthirsty butchers continue their unending wars against the people both here and abroad, with the elections coming up everything feels like it is escalating every day. AI powered psyops against all online discussion. Fuck them all and vote their asses out. Destroy the surveillance state and fight back. As Glenn would say, I ain't no goddamn son of a bitch. This week we have Stage Dive with Velvet Deluxxx, Hound of Hell takes on Real Genius, Medium Regular with Dottie, Daily Toils comic, New Work from Sarah Heggan, The Fight Report by Chessy Renee, and Creature's Double Feature.
It being spooky season and all, check out this sizzle reel for Mondo Maximum Video's screening of Halloween at Myrtle in East Pvd tomorrow night.
As always, hit us up at ragmagclub@proton.me with flyers, art, feedback, column idea, or just to say hi and let's talk about PUNK!

Hello my fall time freaks. Hope everyone is doing alright out there. Honestly I'm a little rough after partying at my friend Joann's Halloween party. She does it early in the month so theres no competition for her party at the end of the month. But thing is since its early it usually ends up being just me and her and that box of wine ain't gonna drink itself AM I RIGHT ??? Anywho what was I saying ? Ah yes, you're here for some spiritual guidance and I'm ready to give it! We're still in Libra season , so buckle up while I tell ya how to live!
Libra's are known to be flirty and often live in fantasy. Some people take these traits to the extreme like the guy jerking off to my friend and I down at park street station. Some fantasies need to be shattered and some need to be brought back faster to reality than others. Anyways Libras are also known for their empathy and thats something we could use a lot of right now. Like the guy at table 2 asking me in the middle of a dinner rush where his food is despite ordering it 2 minutes prior ... hun take a page from the libra empathy book. Anyways that box wine is catching up with me so I'm gonna wrap it up. Be kind to one another and to the stranger on the train - keep it in your fucking pants.

Its finally fall in New England. Personally my favorite season and I am full in the Halloween spirit.
For all the Ghouls out there I have 2 songs from Screaming Lord Sutch. I love this freak and his dedication to theatric , humor and Rock N' Roll. I also LOVE when people looked liked weirdos when it wasn't cool and this dude did all of that.
The first video is of him performing " Jack the Ripper" and I love him emerging from the audience just screaming in everyones face. And how everyones screaming over these really campy props. This is a classic so enjoy!
Second we have Dracula's daughter, I mean I'm curious what she's up to aren't you?

Hound of Hell

Do you enjoy it when I get down in writing? No? Well TOO BAD! Greetings and salutations, my wonderful creatures of the night! Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed my last movie thing, ‘cuz it’s happening with another slightly obscure favorite movie of mine: Real Genius! Do you know this movie? Well, I’m here to tell you all of the most adorable moments I noticed in this truly excellent movie that I wrote down in the coveted Coraline notebook ™ at 1 A.M. But, before we get into the good shit, I would like to do a brief explanation of why I love this movie so much, ‘cuz it is personal: Real Genius really encapsulates the feeling of being a “gifted kid”: Being taken advantage of, being expected to do constant work, etc. I really relate to this movie, especially since I first watched this movie while doing homework on a weekend ‘cuz middle school is a shitshow.
Anyways: Let’s get into it! Firstly, I would just like to say that Mitch Taylor (the main character) is the most ADORABLE 15 year old I’ve ever laid my eyes upon! Moving on, as Mitch enters the college dorm thing and we meet Chris Knight (Val Kilmer), Chris has very sweetly put Mitch’s clothes away for him. Chris also just tries to make Mitch laugh in this entire meeting scene, even showing him this drone thing he made, and when it goes through the window: “OH MY GOD! (normal voice) It’s headed for the gas, duck!” and cutely pushes Mitch to the ground. Once we’re in the #iconic ice skating scene that I love, Mitch falls into some ice outside of his door and Chris just scoops him up by the arms like a cat and takes him to a wall that he can stand against, because, Chris is the best. When we meet Chris’ best friend (?) Ick, who made the ice, Chris hugs him aggressively and even pretends to choke him when Ick refuses to reveal the secrets of the ice <3.
Then, when we meet Jordan and she crashes into the wall on her sled, Mitch immediately runs to help her even though he has no idea who she is. As Kent, who is too annoying to put into words, is loading a bunch of work shit onto Mitch, Chris just jokes around the entire time, even kinda standing up for Mitch (“We were gonna make you king of the winter carnival!”). Also, even when Kent is like “Mitch actually scored higher on smart test things than you, Knight!”, Chris is completely unintimidated and just counters to Mitch with “You think you’re hot stuff, huh?”, and Mitch is just like “No :D,”. I swear, why is Mitch so goddamn cute? When the ice begins to melt, Chris is just like “Ick I’m meeelllting”, because Chris and Ick have a very adorable friendship. Who doesn’t want to be friends with Val Kilmer? Despite the chaos of this whole thing, Mitch has, like, the biggest smile ever the entire time. When Chris goes to the asshole head dean Jerry’s office, Chris is just mirroring Jerry’s body language during the conversation, but only stops and sobers when Jerry falsely claims that Chris’ attitude is distracting Mitch. :(
Anyway, in one of my FAVORITE scenes, Mitch is stressed out doing shit in the laser labs, Chris comes in and is just like “Try this stuff I found, you won’t hurt my feelings”, and just screws with him before revealing the substance ™ is just yogurt, which in my opinion is grosser than stuff found in a chemistry lab. Then, Chris is just like, “Okay Mitch, sometimes you’ve got to take a step back. No, wait, step forward,” and goes on like this until they’re cha-chaing. Mitch then snaps, and Chris is like, okay then I’ll be serious too, and just adorably does the opposite of what Mitch stressfully asks him to do. Then Chris just cutely takes Mitch to this tanning party with STUDENT beauticians because Mitch sure as hell needs it! Mitch then proceeds to be relatable and just sits there until Jordan shows up, and the two have beautiful fun yeeting each other into a pool, as one does. Also, Mitch immediately smiles when he sees Jordan, and immediately says he isn’t busy when Jordan asks if he wants to test some scuba shit with her, and Mitch just realizes how freaking awesome she is and is like “I think you’re very nice!” Jordan, thankfully, reciprocates! My heart! Unfortunately, thanks to Kent’s stupid narc behavior, Jerry finds out Mitch and Chris are at a party, and yells at Mitch for the crime of not working even though Mitch has been working hard the entire time. This scene perfectly captures the feeling of working hard, like, all the time, and only getting in trouble when you finally relax, sighs in middle schooler.
But, afterwards at the cafeteria, Chris tries to check on Mitch, asking what Jerry said ‘cuz Jordan, being amazing, told Chris that the whole debacle had happened. After another horrible prank from Kent, Mitch is like “no”, and tries to leave, but Chris is like, no, you gotta stay, you gotta get back at Kent, it’s a mortal imperative, and also you can still relax and stuff. When Mitch is finally like, yeah :D I’ll stay, Chris just gets so excited and the two scream with joy and throw shit. Mitch and Chris specifically love to throw shit to show emotion in this movie! Then, when Mitch and the other 3 main characters prank Kent, Kent is like “What the frick, Chris yo did this, didn’t you?!”, Chris is just fake-scaredly like “I had help 😰” and puts his arm around Mitch, who is just hitting this face while waving: :D. Kent then threatens them with his less-advanced-than-he-thinks vocabulary, Chris and Mitch mirror each other’s fake scared body language.
Then, in the scene where Chris is about to be kicked out, Mitch convinces him to stay by saying the same stuff Chris said to him, aww! Later, when the two are studying for Jerry’s exam (or Mitch is just studying laser stuff) Mitch has a nightmare about being shoved in a mailbox, which apparently actually happened to him, Chris almost immediately wakes him up and tells him to go get some sleep in the dorm. After the laser that the guys have been working on for the whole movie explodes because of Kent and Chris has his epiphany, Chris just sprints out of the room excitedly yelling for Mitch. When the two finally get the laser to work, Chris and Mitch just excitedly hug and head out with Jordan and Ick to a restaurant, in which Ick is like “Chris, who are you gonna thank for all this?”, to which Chris jokingly responds with thanking the fish that live in the dorm water cooler (that he also drinks out of 🤢) before saying he’s obviously going to thank Ick.
These two dudes are so cute! But, after a whole debacle where the laser gets stolen and Chris starts yeeting shit around the lab, he makes sure to assure Mitch that he’s fine. Finally, when the laser is stopped from killing people by our heroes, and Jerry’s house is blown up with popcorn and this laser, the 4 main guys are like “is it getting too weird around here?” after this guy who was living in the closet named Laslo who I’ve neglected to mention is moving away with his wife because of this theory. Chris just agrees that it is, Jordan says she didn’t notice, and Mitch just is like “I like it :D”, and good on him for finally getting to be happy and have friends! The movie then ends…. Welp, this was a long-ass review, and I would like to note that most of the cute moments in this movie come from dialogue repetition, but mostly through characters mirroring body language. Also, throughout the entire movie, Chris is just constantly reassuring and protecting Mitch :), and Mitch is almost constantly hitting this face :D. Hope you enjoyed this long ass review and hope to see more of these! As soon as I finish “The Outsiders”, I promise I’ll do one of these for the movie!
All my Love, Hound of Hell <3

The Fight Report by Chessy Renee
Sup punks! Happy Indigenough is Enough Day!!! No time like the present to support giving the land BACK to indigenous peoples!!
Welcome back to another FIGHT REPORT!

I just wanted to drop in some new england related LAND BACK info here in the mag for you all, in celebration of today. So, there is a petition to show support for the Grandmothers’ Village Project, an indigenous group that aims to reclaim land in Randolph, MA in order to build intergenerational housing.
Then also, here is a website with information about supporting a Land Back initiatives in Belchertown, MA out by Springfield.
There are also a couple of orgs you could follow for more learning: NAICOB and UAINE - and if you are interested beyond just the local scene, you could check out the Native Governance Center; looks like they have a lot of cool and informative resources.
Never forget that in the united states of merica - we are all on unceded land. And indigenous people are here and present, even when colonizers would like to imagine these communities as totally disappeared - they're not!!
Alright babes, get out there and take care of one another, support and align with the efforts and initiatives of indigenous communities - and also say a big fuck you to the government!! We are all out here just surviving - keep it up motherfuckers!!!
Alright – later dudes!✨✨✨👊👊👊👊👊👊✨✨✨

It's October so I haven't been spinning as many records because too busy watching horror movies with Mr. Mittens.
The Hitcher - No mittens - forgot how over the top this was. Come for Rutger Hauer's terrifyingly intense performance and stay for way more dead cops and explosions than I remembered
Scream 2, 3, 4 and Scream (2022) - Watched these again with Mr. Mittens as it's been a while for most of them. Every movie is pretty much the exact same thing but they are dumb enough fun if you make up games to play instead of listening to the embarrassing dialog
Road Games - No Mittens. Stacy Keach and Jamie Lee in Australia dodging a serial killer - really fun movie even if Stacy Keach's character is a scab
Duel - No mittens. been a long time, and this remains a tight, tense watch
The furious - Not horror, but intense and makes me groan and yell at the screen so it counts. best martial arts movie in forever
Child's play 3 - Insect World was telling me how he looks for the enjoyable parts of bad movies for his reviews, so all I will say is I liked that the little kid only refers to him as Charles
976-evil - why'd the first guy get off the hook from his deal with the devil? Why'd they let Robert Englund direct a movie? Why did I watch this more than once as a teenager? So many questions to think about instead of paying attention

We made it to the opening of the new show at Fuller Speedshop (still open despite the demolition in front). Drawings and sketches from the last 10 years (plus plant clippings) from cartoonist Mickey Zacchilli. Fun show with so much to look at and it was fun hanging out talking about everybody's favorite parts of the drawing like all of the knight butts. I love seeing work in progress and practicing out ideas and this is great. Always cool to get a peek behind the scenes of an artist's process. Here are some photo's of my favorite pieces and check out Mickey's current ongoing comic GAR, it's really good!

Records of the Week

Early Grave - Violent Winter LP from Creature's collection
First up is the debut LP by Philly's Early Grave - Violent Winter. Killer dark thrashy hard-gore punk. Back in issue 39 I reviewed their demo 7" and compared them to The Accused or being on a Noise from Nowhere comp. While those comparisons still remain, let's say now I'm thinking tales of terror raised on die kreuzen and the midwest hardcore punk's love of Lodi's finest right down to the whoa ohs on side B. Sick artwork/packaging as usual from general speech. Hope I can catch them live. As I said the first time around, this one is a total ripper, especially for the horror hounds. I accidentally ended up with 2 copies of this monster, so hit me up if you want it.

Next up is Ediondo - Danza Con La Muerte six-track 7" EP. Picked this up as recommended for fans of Ignorantes and happy I did. Fast, fun raw punk from this Chilean band, keeping in the tradition of south/latin american hardcore punk and the drummer's got that beat that makes you wanna pogo with Death so I can see why they are holding hands on the cover. This hits a sweet-spot for me and I can imagine myself at their show with all the beer-drenched punks jumping around, screaming and having the time of your life (for the night at least).

Soul Song of the Day
Hey it's spooky season so things get weird. No soul 45 this week. Time for something really scary, the music video for The Fall's cover of There's a Ghost In My House. Mark E. Smith goes for it and I love that the ghost apparently throws snowballs at him. Enjoy
That's it for this week's Rag Mag. Here's some flyers and keep sending stuff in (ragmagclub@proton.me).
